Dr. Katie Altneu DTCM FABORM

Dr. Katie is an acupuncturist and ABORM certified women’s health and fertility expert, the founder and clinic director of The Point Acupuncture & Holistic Medicine, and the creator of the programs: Becoming Balanced, Becoming Mama, and Mend Your Metabolism. She has more than ten years of experience in private practice helping clients achieve their health and wellness goals. Katie studied economics at Colby College and the London School of Economics before experiencing health struggles that led her to discover first-hand the power of acupuncture and holistic medicine. She then got her Masters at Southwest Acupuncture College to become a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist. She completed her doctorate of Traditional Chinese Medicine from Five Branches University in 2022. She *gets it*, having been through hormonal and digestive problems that doctors shrugged their shoulders at, growing up in diet culture and the disordered eating and the weight fluctuations that come with it, and being "advanced maternal age" when trying to conceive and pregnant. She's here to guide you in balancing your hormones, optimizing your health, and supporting your wellbeing, and to do it in an evidence-based, effective, enjoyable, empowered way, which is so important.

Supporting your hormones holistically is without-a-doubt one of the biggest impacts you can have on your wellbeing.

It can have a ripple effect on your relationships, your career, and your whole life.

Your hormones are more powerful than you might realize. Nestled inside your body are 50+ different hormones running your body. Hormones aren't only about hot flashes, periods, or pregnancy. They control everything from the rate at which your heart pumps, to your mood right now, to weight gain and loss, to how quickly you fall asleep at night and how energetically you emerge from bed in the morning... and so much more. Very few substances have the power to impact your body the way hormones do, especially when it comes to maintaining energy, calm, fat-burning, and fertility.

As women, our bodies are misunderstood and under-studied. We too often shrug our shoulders at women's complaints. As a result, so many of us are walking around suffering from common-yet-not-normal symptoms like low energy, anxiety, weight gain, PMS, or painful periods and not realizing that it could be due to our hormones being out of whack.

Symptoms you may never have associated with hormones before - such as anxiety, fatigue, or insomnia - can all be hormonally based. Most of us just haven't been taught to connect the dots between those symptoms and our hormones. Or what we can do about it.

Here are some common signs of hormonal imbalance

Did you know that periods shouldn't be a pain, your moods shouldn't be all over the place, your energy shouldn't be tanked, and what you think is "normal" is most likely the farthest thing from it?

  • Mood swings, irritability, weepiness, or anxiety

  • Fatigue, feeling tired-but-wired at night, or difficulty waking in the morning

  • Weight gain, difficulty losing weight, or weight loss resistance

  • Waking around 2-3am, insomnia, or difficulty falling and staying asleep

  • Bloating or constipation

  • PCOS

  • Thyroid problems

  • Irregular periods, heavy periods, painful periods, or breast tenderness

  • Hormonal headaches or migraines

  • Perimenopause symptoms

Living a life uninterrupted by these symptoms probably feels as realistic as being besties with Taylor Swift.

But if you're suffering through your period or other hormone symptoms and you've convinced yourself it's "normal", then it's time to sit up and pay attention. The most common hormone imbalances are fixable with diet and lifestyle tweaks. And it's completely possible to live a life uninterrupted by these hormone problems.

Signs of happy hormones:

  • Mental clarity + consistent energy + stable mood

  • Falling asleep easily and sleeping soundly through the night

  • Consistent hunger cues and healthy appetite

  • Minimal PMS symptoms (pre-menopause)

  • Regular cycles (pre-menopause)

  • Pain-free period (pre-menopause)

  • Maintaining body weight easily

  • Regular daily bowel movements

  • Healthy hair, skin, and nails

And it's not as far off as you think.

Many people are surprised to learn what optimally healthy hormones look like and that feeling that way is even possible. Imagine waking up feeling peacefully energetic in the morning, feeling nourished and satisfied by your meals, easily maintaining a weight that feels good to you, having warm hands and feet, shiny hair and clear glowing skin, a healthy libido, and sustained energy and clarity throughout the day, knowing and going for what you want, able to enjoy the present moment and feel relaxed, and falling into restful sleep each night. This is what balanced hormones looks like.

I want to make hormone health feel like a hop instead of a leap for you.

No fad diets. Only evidence-based science-backed nutrition and lifestyle strategies, and time-tested wisdom for your female physiology that *actually works* and feels sustainable.

Have no fear, the info I'm going to share with you is far from boring, rigid, or restrictive, OR what you've heard a million times before. You can (and should) eat lots of delicious food while balancing your hormones, and I'm going to show you how.

I've got you! Even if...

  • You've spent thousands of dollars on hormone tests and specialists and over-hyped supplements

  • You've spent hours on Google or scrolling social media searching for answers to solve your problems

  • You have to block of your calendar or cancel plans when your period comes

  • You only implement the Becoming Balanced blueprint halfway, you'll be miles ahead

There are so many factors that influence hormones. Having an expert to guide you can help.

This guide is different because we're going to address hormone disruptors that are typically never addressed by nutrition and wellness courses, and it's even different than the way I used to approach my own health. Since adopting this approach, I see results faster and longer-lasting than I did with all the other methods I've tried and researched over the years.
